Well the 'ol girl let out a loud "pop"...then total silence (with a semi on my tail at 70 mph!). The battery was smoking but the lights still work and the starter solinoid goes clickety-click when I turn the key. BTW "the other woman" is a '70 W200 Crew Cab 383 2bbl. Tomorrow the puzzle solving starts. I'll let y'all know what I find.
