Why would a 103hp diesel that operates in a lower RPM range for $3000 be better than a 125hp(net) 251 gaser in a PW with Low 5:83 gears when a diesel normally uses a higher gearing than a gaser? Non-radical performance parts such as headers ,cam, carburation, and ignition could gain possiblly another 25hp.No telling what kind of gains could be had with turbo-charging a 251 L-6.
What kind of milage could be expected from a 251 rebuilt with good parts, more modern rebuilding methods and moderately used (approx,5000mi. yr or 15 mi. a day) for work and play. What has been the longest anyone has run a rebuilt 251 operated moderately?
