I was referring to Charlies splash oiling statement and assumed he meant upper cylinder lubrication as opposed to to full-pressure oiling of the 251 and modern engines
where the rods have oil journals for the wristpins and upper cyl. lubrication.
Had they been on an equal par,I don't think chrysler would have changed to the 251.
The 251-3 also sports replacable hardened exhaust valve seats which means unleaded or LP gas can be used without worry of premature wear.
Torque is whats needed for higher gears or taller tires or even OD trannys to reduce engine RPMs at more normal road speeds. If a diesel that did not weigh so much with 6 cyl. and more torque than a 251 could be had at a reasonable price everyone would want it.The conversions now used are usually 3or4 cyl. not 6,meaning the more cyl. the smoother a eng. runs.Weight is a problem with the cummins eng.
Personally I feel it is cheaper to just do a V-8 conversion,or upgrade the 251. This is just my opinion.
