If you have to prime it with ether, it could be that your carb is draining into the manifold leaving you with a dry carb but a "flooded" engine. It may start when warm because the hot engine helps vaporize the excess fuel. Check your carb idle settings and run a vacuum test. Correct the problem, because the ether can damage your engine.
