Oops. I originallywrote this and the one about the M37's in one post. Thought better of it, split it up and forgot to change the post title on the other one.
Laurie and I went to the "Aberdeen Show" and had a great time as usual. We went down Thursday evening so we were there bright and early Friday morning. Getting ready for the wedding last year meant we had to skip Aberdeen and Reading so it was nice to catch up with old friends and see what's new. Lots and lots of ammo cans for one thing. Anyway the main purpose of this part of the after-action report is to pass on some hard-earned and sometimes forgotten wisdom regarding shows of this nature.
1. Bring a list of what you really, really need. Example: I knew I needed doors for my Command Car but couldn't remember which ones when I actually, amazingly, found a dealer with several.
2. Make a detailed note of where any dealer is located that you might want to go back and visit. I decided to have another look at the CC doors after touring the entire show and all of the rows that look pretty much alike. I wore my poor feet out trying to remember in the heat of the day where the guy had been. I actually found him several times but focusing like a laser beam on where I had seen the doors, I didn't notice that he had moved them!
So, he had 2 driver's side front and 1 drivers side rear.
Like I said, I couldn't remember what I really needed but I knew I had a good driver's door so I took a chance of the rear one. I got home and it was the right one.
Hooray, Bingo, etc. That got me thinking about whether or not a drivers door frame could be reversed and turned into a passenger door.
3. If you think for a moment that you might ever want to get back in touch with someone about something, GET THEIR PHONE NUMBER!
If I had, I could have called him instead of driving 110 miles this afternoon only to get there about an hour after he had packed up!
4. Don't trust websites. I thought that the show closed earlier on the last day (Saturday), but I don't go on Saturday and didn't go last year. I checked several websites and they all said until 5:00 each day. Well. it was 3:00 pm today and even though I got there at 2:30, by the looks of the place dealers had been packing up since noon.
5. So I drove over 220 miles for nothing, don't know who he is, or how to get in touch with him, but he is a very nice gentlemen with 2 driver's side CC doors. At my age, I know better. This is my penance, perhaps I will practice what I preach in the future.
HELP! I am now fired up to complete the set.
I need a passenger side front door, but will take a driver's side on the gamble that stripped to the frame, the hardware can be reversed and re-covered.
Anyone know if this may be done or not? I have a rear door to sell or trade (passenger I think but will verify on request). Thanks.
