JCB, had the same problem on a 58 once many moons ago would fry the points about every 200 miles burn the points off the arm, and turn the spring blue!! napa eclin points helped but did not cure. ballast resister took care of it. all you have to ask for is a ballast resister at the parts counter, they will know what you want!
