After trying a u-jointed socket, several different length end wrenches, I tried an old offset 5/8' box end that was about 4" long. This fit between the stuff in the way. My starter has the "foot activated" lever which also did a good job getting in the way. All is better now. My son wants to drive the truck in the "Lost in the '50s" parade next Friday, and I wanted it to start easily.
