Don't know about the car you are talking about, but the big '84 Jeep Cherokee wagon we had was a great machine. Had the AMC 360 in it and did over 500k miles. Replaced a couple noisy lifters and had the 727 rebuilt at around 400k miles - no other major work on it. Last I heard of it a bloke was restoring it.
