Crazy combination 383 V8 into a 1959 Diamond T big rig

The truck originally had a cummins diesel. My friend was given this truck shell,no engine or transmission as he has the 383 sitting in his garage and says he is going to install it in the truck with a five speed behind it. Will that motor be able to move so big and heavy a truck? And if so probably not very fast I am thinking. Any feed back? I wonder if this has been done before??
