I'm sure sure it is a matter of scale. An inch or two being pretty innocuous, eight inches is asking for trouble.
Hmmm, the length of the lever arm that works against the springs and u-bolts is from the ground to the top of the springs, about 24" on our trucks. A two inch lift block at the spring perch would add 8% more leverage at the spring center, as well as the spring eyes. A 2" spring arch won't change the center load, but will still add that 8% to the spring eye end of things.
