I don't begrudge anyone their opinion, and am not trying to pick a fight. For a simple machine to do basic tasks I agree that Apple has a good package, but I have to defend my Windows machines.
I have 4 PCs in my house running 3 different Microsoft OSs (XP, Windows Home Server, and Windows 7), 3 of which were hand built by me (the 4th is an old laptop), many are just older parts left over from upgrades so in essence they were "free". All of them are rock stable, none has ever had a virus, and many have accessories and options a MAC user could never hope to use.
My Windows Home Sever has been running unattended for over 4 months without a hiccup and does things no Mac can do without far more time, energy, and money invested.
Apple has some slick devices, I'll admit. However, you will pay at minimum twice as much for their hardware as you would for an equivalent set of hardware in PC form, and are limited to a tiny subset of compatible hardware and software.
My biggest problem with them is it's kind of like living in a communist country. If you're willing to live with their rules, regulation, limitation, and requirements everything will run smoothly. Try to deviate and you're not only on your own but Apple will usually try to make it harder to do so. They are 98% marketing.
Again, not trying to pick a fight, I just want to voice the other side of the Apple argument.
Rant over, I'll be quiet.
