Once the pan is removed you can often locate the bearing that is going out by checking the rod side play. Do that by wiggling the large end of the connecting rod fore & aft on the crank pin and comparing it to the other rods. If a bearing is beginning to seize the rod will be stuck to the crank journal. If it was pushed long enough the babbit material might be smashed out and around the side of the connecting rod, also taking up any side play.
