ZDDP -We definitely should all be using it. A year or two ago, on the WWII dodge web site (link above) and within the dodge VC1-WC64kd forum there was a long discussion all about ZDDP and why we need to use it. Who ever posted it had links to proffessional oil industry documentation written by 1 or 2 oil chemical engineers which described in detail the reason we need to use zddp. There was also a lot of discussion amongst that forums members. I think if you go to the WWII forum and search on ZDDP you should be able to find it. The posting also noted 4 or 5 major oil brands and oil weight that still had zddp mixed in and the ppm listed. All would suit our needs. I recall shell rotella t, and thats what I use, as it was not quite as expensive as some of the others, and I can get it at walmart. the T designation means for diesel applications in the shell case. Thats not to say we can not use it. If I recall, it just means that diesel fuel does not frovide the proper lubrication to the valve train in a diesel engine, so you need the oil with the zddp in it, or something to that effect. From all I read on that forum the recommendation is to use the oils with zddp for heavy duty diesel truck and dozer / construction equipment and we will be safe. There are no ill effects noted in using that type of oil in our old flat head dodges. If anyone does a search on the WWII dodge forum and finds the zddp dicussion, please cut and paste the link into this power wagon forum for all to read.
