Nope, this on wasn't much of an adventure. Now the I'm old, I've learned to turn around before it becomes an adventure. When I was young I would have thought, "Hey, I've got a truck and I've got chains, so I can go anywhere!" Later, after it's dark and I'm still digging and pushing, I learn that there are limits. That's where the luck came in. I practiced turning around on icy roads that were wide enough and flat enough that I could eventually dig and push my way around. Not going to try it on a steep road that's barely wide enough for the truck and I can see the river 500 feet below.
"Tucker" is a Tucker Sno-Cat. I have a '52 and a '53. Dodge 1/2-ton power train and an aircraft-style lightweight aluminum body. Their motto was "No road to steep, no snow too deep." Usually, this time of year I'd be driving over the mountain from town in the Tucker, but we have no snow down low and I have no trailer to haul it up to where the snow starts. The '56 is dead-lined with a broken axle shaft. I'm having a heck of a time finding one for an 8-3/4 rear end with 16 splines on the inside end. Part of the reason I was trying to drive into my place was I have a trailer made out of a late 50's 1/2-ton Dodge rear end that I thought might have the right axle shaft in it.
