I was thinking you had it out of the truck. Now that I read your post more slowly, I can see you don't. You are right. Marine Tex would probably be a waste of time if it's not oil-free. Can you weld it in place, under those conditions? I guess the oil won't be an issue if you decide to weld.
Regarding welding the case. Can you actually MIG weld cast iron? I know some people who can gas-weld it, but didn't know about MIG.
