The spacer placed in either location in Paul's images does absolutely nothing for pinion depth. You would need a shim between the pinion head and single bearing in order to adjust the pinion deeper. You would need to grind material from the pinion head, or bearing, to adjust the pinion shallower.

The WDX-WM300 ring and pinions were designed as a matched set with no allowance for pinion depth adjustment. The quote from the manual:

"The drive pinion bearings cannot be used for pinion gear adjustment. Tooth contact can only be corrected by ring gear sidewise adjustment ant the differential side bearings."

If proper tooth contact could not be obtained with side-to-side adjustment of the ring gear, Dodge meant for a different ring and pinion set to be used, setting aside the one that would not adjust correctly for future assembly into another housing.

I know it is hard to believe.....
