If your xmember is hollow square tubing, Hole saws cut steel pretty good, if you run them slow enough. Use a 1/2" drill motor, or the slow speed in a drill press.

Or use a gentle downward bow to get around the xmember. You may not even need to lengthen the rods, if there is enough adjustment and the slots in the floor are long enough.
