T case rod adjustments

Has anyone modified the rods running from the cab back to the tcase to accomidate for other additions? I put in another cross member for mounting the transmission, and it turns out to be in the way. I was going to cut the rod, and weld it back like this
----|____|----- so it can go under the cross memeber. Anyone else out there not plan things out and have to do anything similar? Other suggestions?
