No, the compression at cranking figures are descended from 6 volt systems. But running the starter on 12 volts won't hurt it a bit, go ahead and try it, Just do a couple cyls, that ought to tell.
If timing doesn't change the way it runs, it has a problem. It runs so poorly that it just can't run worse?
I do a have a list of some of the head casting numbers. What is yours? 1/2" numbers on the head.
I suppose you could have standard rings in an oversize bore. Did you check ring end gap at assembly ?
