Thanks Chris, I think the valve timing is ok because of the high vacume reading and changing the ignition timing doesn't improve the way it runs off the timing mark.
The pistons do go all the way to the top of the bore, they were from VPW so who knows where they came from but they fit good.
The book says the compression changes from temperature and cranking speed. and the standard is 150 rpm. I don't know if a 6 volt system will crank 150 rpm. Could try spinning it with a 12v and see??
