there are other diesil engines that have higher speeds and lighter weight than the cummins > not that the cummins isnt a great engine i took the course on the bt99 back in the early eighties and was impressed with its track record > if i am not mistaken it was a Case engine design then cummins moved in as i have seen the 4 cylinders way back in the seventys in case equipment > any way back to other engines , i work on a great deal of a mixed bag of them around farm country > some real really turned my crank so to speak i have seen some asian stuff that turned 3600 i ran a John deere today that was rated 88 hp and man she turned 3100 rpm all day and kept up to the bigger equipment hauling 30 tons of wet corn ! > now that the cummins is in peak demandbut stuff like izzuuzu kabota fasttram perkins and so many more make ideal substitutes they have a high horse power to weight ratio and spin higher so take a look around > next i was always under the impression that the sociaty of automotive engineers SaE have narrowed down bell housings to two types sae no 1 sae n0 2 no 2 being the most common on diesil stuff and heavy gas with trans missions if you know you way around and are half fast handy input shafts are chanable for length and splinage or can be remanufatured for a fit > i have often gone to the wreckers to swap out input shafts so matching and or changing is a option its just a case of knowing what you are looking for > same with throw out bearings and out put shaft yokes some times i just make them up on a lathe so all the joints are the same open to opinions ~ Copey
