I was over at Jim Bescheinen's place and I loved his shelves that ran the length of his Morton Building, wall to wall, floor to ceiling. But I thought, "Whew... that's a lot of dough for wood, etc." The next time I was over I got to looking closer: he has 4x4's running from floor to ceiling and a few 2x6's running between then. The "shelves" are just your average pallets!!! They rest on the 2x6 and on the framing of the Mortong Building walls themselves.
I ran home, bought about 6 4x4's that were 14' long, poured a couple footings (just for good measure) and bolted them to the rafters. The 2x6's I got from my son when he replaced his deck with a new composite one (the wood was good, just needed staining but he opted for new "plastic" wood). Then I grabbed pallets from work. Total cost was the 4x4s and some hardware. Pallets are usually really cheap and in most places FREE. (That's my price range!)
