A while back Paul (in NY) suggested building a new 3rd crossmember for my 46 FFPW. I started mocking up a template, looking for some thoughts/ideas/suggestions on the best way to build.
I made it as wide as the original crossmember, essentially building a "box" around the original. I'll use a plate on either end with nuts welded on to attach to the frame and spring hangers. I thought I would box in the bottom except for the middle section where I'll weld a lip on the inside with some attached nuts and the bottom flat plate in the middle will be bolted to allow access to paint the interior.
Right now I have the sides going full height with the top and bottom plates "inside", would it be better to have it the other way around?
Thanks.
