I hear you on the abuses of the system, but using an ER as a primary care option is why we are losing ERs in this country. An ER has a specific purpose, and I do not want to wait in line with a broken leg just because the doctors are busy with head colds. That is not a viable option for the uninsured in the long term.
Making it possible for people to pick themselves up and take care of themselves is to me the purpose of health care reform. If health insurance companies have to take everyone, and the premiums are reasonable, then the CNA can take care of their own needs. If they are denied coverage because they had acne as a teenager, and the premium would be 1/2 their income even if they could get coverage there is no realistic option for them to take care of themselves.
Come on Todd, you know there is a HUGE difference between heath care, and a Dodge Diesel pickup. Health Care for all in my mind is like Police Protection for all, or a guarantee that you will be provided a lawyer in a criminal case, or Federal mandates that require phone companies to provide everyone with a phone line, etc. Or the best one, how about Health Care for all over 65? Or Social Security? Many people get more in SS payouts than they ever paid in, yet people of all political parties cry foul when anyone tries to limit those benefits.
Over time people have decided that our Government has some responsibility to take care of some things, but getting you a new truck is not one of them.
And just to say it again, yes in all systems there is abuse, but for every drug seeker there has to be several people suffering for real.
People who take horrible care of their bodies, and walk around with untreated diabetes, or weighing 800 pounds (well they may not be walking) are a huge drain on our limited health resources. Taking care of diabetics blood sugar before they need a leg amputated has to be cheaper, as does working with a 300 lb person before they become 800 lbs.
Just my way of looking at it.
I hope your current Health Care continues to work well for you.
Eric
