Something is wrong ! I use NP-205 on 3 of my trucks. Both the input and output yokes will push in by hand, and can be removed by hand. The nut puts to preload on the bearing, it does NOT pull the yoke in place. These are straight shafts...not tapered.
Check the splines on both your NP-205 shaft and the new yoke, maybe one is messed up. Its also possible that the new yoke splines are slightly undersize ? Maybe carefully dress with a file.
If the yoke goes on easy for a ways, then tightens bad, my guess is one of the above.
If it wont even start, count and match splines.
