I respect your experience. The cam was checked before I put the engine in originally, and the timing chain was new then as well. Bearings were plastigaged and found to be fine. Re-ringed and honed it then as there were a couple of stuck rings and I broke one so replaced them all. Didnt get into the heads at that point for various reasons, so now they are done too.
So, why is it fine to drive a 230 Power Wagon with the heat riser closed constantly for 6 months at a time, but I am going to kill my 318 heads by controlling the heat riser manually a couple of minutes at a time on startup?
