The clunker laws are not without benefits. Bear with me here because this could get a bit convoluted.
I used to collect pre-war cars and oddball brands at that. Oaklands,Jordans,Marquettes and a number of others. They all had one thing in common. By the time WWII came along most of these cars were pretty well worn out. As a result the vast majority ended up as scrap and ultimately munitions that turned the tide of the war. As a result of this , very few of the previously mentioned Marques survive to this day.
Okay here's where it gets a bit wierd. The cumulative effect of all the state and federal clunker laws is going to be that someone in the future, say twenty-five years will pay an exhorbitant amount for a Pontiac Sunbird or a Ford Taurus. There will be the same scarcity of parts that plagues current restorers, Only the causative factor will be different. Granted the web site threads will be different. Topics like how to convert a Cressida to a Fuel Cell will dominate in place of fitting a 4BT in a PW.
Nothing changes as much as it remains the same.
