And in no way was I crying the blues due to pay cuts or furloghs, my true concern is the citizens of this state. Although the state sucks %#@, in this job, you need to have some concern for the public, or you wouldnt do this as a career.
Im not worried about me with pay cuts and such, I can adjust and make things work. The citizens are the ones that will pay.
And we all received emails today. for those that say "dont worry this will still be provided or that will still be there", it wont be. CHP will be shutting down full offices on certain days, CAL FIRE will be unstaffing whole engines and closing fire houses on certain days.
Sure fire protection and chp will still be there, but as in our fire stations, certain areas and communities will be unprotected by their local fire station. Second in engines are anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes out.
As for volunteers, I' ve said it before. First I am originally from New Jersey, I know about volunteers, my hometown was a volunteer fire dept. And when I moved to Calif, I began my fire career as a volunteer. I have no bad thing to say about volunteers. So what? Does anyone really think that the third largest fire dept in the nation that runs 350,000 calls a year could possibly be run with volunteers? And work the largest wildfires like we have in this state?
Yes I agree, this is a widespread problem, the entire nation is hurting, I KNOW THAT. I WASN'T CRYING THE BLUES. I know "At least I have a job..
OK, so those that dont have jobs, if your local fire dept wasnt there, and you lost your job, wouldnt you want to know that there is someone there to protect the only things you have left??? Im not loosing my job, and for that I'm grateful. My job is at the whim of dumb, out of touch politicians that don't have a clue what real life is like.
And unfortunately, so is the publics safety.
