I can understand California being the way it is, being as how its main industry is fantasy. What I don't understand is why every other state gets in line to copy every goofy idea California comes up with. First, the goofy ideas move up the coast. Once Oregon and Washington have copied them, they start spreading eastward. At some point, they're going to run into a whole different set of goofy ideas spreading westward from the Northeast.
When L.A. tans finally meet the Boston blue-bloods head-on, it'll be quite a battle. All the rest of us will be able to do is get out of the way and watch.
And, yes I agree with you about closing all the mountain roads "for your protection", but that's yet another one that spread to Oregon and Washington and is now starting to head east. I surely hope that one of the first things the people of California do after their government collapses is get out their blue wrenches and set those roads free. After a few yuppies in their beemers and lexuses get found buried in the snow drifts in the spring, the surviving members of their species will learn to decide for themselves if they think the can make it over the pass without chains and a shovel or not, rather than relying on CALTRANS to hold their hand the whole way.
