The big gear is missing two teeth, separated about 90 degrees. But the pinion is missing 13 out of 22, and a previous owner has welded that 200° up into a sold blank. It's a helical gear, I'm not about to try grinding in that many teeth. And a metric pitch, so I can't buy the small gear. I already replaced the gear for the traverse rack with the gear from a giant chuck key that I needed to grind the taper out of. Hand crank is one thing, motorized helical gear is a horse of a different brand.
I'm thinking that by now, those cast iron gears have to be the weakest parts, it ought to give good service for long time once I turn a couple shafts and press on a couple gears.
