The ID of the PW type spindle is to small for the larger Dana 70 outer axle from the Tracta joint to the drive flange ( lockout hub). The PW Tracta joint on the outer axle WILL fit the Dana 70 Tracta joint. So you could use a PW outer axle. I spend a lot of time with my W300 with Dana 70's looking at exactly your thoughts. In reality..........none of this is worth the work involved.
