Last Wednesday I was driving and saw coolant leaking out the heat vent onto the floor mat. Pretty simple diagnosis, bad heater core.
Ordered one and it came in yesterday. I had to pull the entire dash out to access the core. About a minute and a half to replace the core and then back together. What a PITA! I was talking to a friend who did one on a Ford Ranger. A nice little access panel, slip out the bad core, slip in the new one put the panel back on and back down the road. I had to have the AC drained and will now need to refill it.
This is an 03 with 65,000 miles. Seems a bit premature. The heater core was all metal, I figured it would be plastic that cracked.
I have it mostly put back together, another hour and it will be done.
