We can both find specific platforms that were designed badly, or had one well known problem. I am asking for an overview by company. How many recalls did Ford have in 2000? How many did Hyundai have? Toyota? Mercedes?
I am not saying that American car companies are bad, just that their reputation on the street is not as good as other companies. I agree with you that they have improved a lot in the last few years. The question here though is should they get big bailouts from the feds. I am not sure they have a good plan to use the money. If they are burning up 3,000,000,000 a month, 8,000,000,000 each will last 2 1/2 months.
What ever happened to Chrysler's big restructuring plan? I thought they were going to eliminate 20 models (which I thought was a great idea, there is too much overlap) and restructure the dealerships.
