I just got to looking closely at the schematics for the M37 and M43 as I get ready to re-wire my ambulance, and was surprised to see that the only circuit with a breaker in it on a stock M37 is the horn! Neither the ignition circuit, the panel gauges, nor the lights have a breaker, except for the rather marginal breaker function incorporated into the 3-lever light switch. I can sort of understand not having a breaker in the ignition circuit, since that needs maximum reliability and a minimum possible points of failure, and if a short burned up the wiring, the end result (truck not moving) wouldn't be any worse in a tactical environment than the breaker opening up. But it makes no sense not to have a breaker in the gauge circuit. Do you really want to burn up the wiring harness and stop the truck just because a wire in the rat's nest behind the gauges shorted out?
On the M43, they add 2 more breakers, one for the ambulance compartment heater and ventilation fans, and one for the ambulance compartment lights. When adding a fender-mounted heater kit to an M37, the kit includes a breaker just for that heater blower. There's still no breaker for the gages or lights.
