As I was working on the M-37 we got last weekend, trying to keep brake fluid and axle grease off the brake shoes, I was putting the hub back together and wondered how the grease reached the bearings.
From my experience will full floating axles, the bearings are splashed lubed from the differential, but with the outer seal in place, the only pathway I could see was along the keyway.
I haven't had a chance to get a manual yet, but can I correctly assume the bearings are splash lubed from the differential and are NOT packed with grease?
The bearings went back in with a light coating of oil after cleaning and inspection...and not see any evidence of previously being packed with grease.
