Marty:
Here are the real numbers. I got $16,500 (which is 18K with the sales tax savings) on trade for that truck and a Ford employees price on the new one. It got 12MPG empty and being careful. It got 9.5 with a medium sized camper on it. I could either tow my PW or carry the camper. It was interesting to see the same truck pass me going up the pass with the same camper and 2 horses in a trailer. IT had the diesel
The new one is a crew cab and not an extended cab. IT has 3K more in GVW and can tow much more. I can put a much larger camper on it plus tow my trailer with the truck on it and still get 10 MPG. I have done this many times to California and Nevada and to Indianapolis. It is 10 MPG = or - .5 MPG depending on the amount of mountain passes I climb. I do not save on the fuel when you look at it. But I sure can carry a lot more that I could before and If I do a direct comparison with the V10 with weight and speed and terraine the Diesel gets 20% better when loaded and it gets 18 MPG unloaded verses 12 on the V10. But I never drive it unloaded.
