Intersting article this AM about how the park service had $80K in fed funding to clear detritis and brush from the Bonny doon park but progress stalled when activists became enraged with threatened plant species. The funding went away after 3 years of non use.
Same thing happended with the Lake Tahoe fires last year. There were 8 groups/agencies fighting any dead timber clearing/thinning and it burned out of control. Ironically, the man who was the most vocal against clearing had his house burned and he has since changed his tune.
I've seen org's like the Sierra Club do more damage than good and I stopped supporting them decades ago.
