Cool pics,!!! how did you get them to turn out so clear??? I worked at the "Shine" from about July of 98' til May 20th of 00' I took a camera underground several times, but could never take a decent pic because of the humidity. I do have a couple pics of the Shine's Famous #10 Double drum hoist (3,100ft below the surface) but though they are clear they don't show enough detail to really recognize anything.
That is one occupation that I do not miss. The miners made pretty good money, but the mechanics made quite a bit less. ($11.60hr) And the work was always, hot, muggy, and dangerous!
I actually heard the other day that someone was revamping the Shine alittle and was gonna try to reopen it for production.
Also if you are interested in this sort of thing there is a new book out, detailing the 72' disaster called "The Deep Dark". I got a copy for Christmas, and read it in the first three days. The guy was right on with the title, you've never seen dark until you experience the liquid blackness of being underground.
