These bolts/studs (some of each) are broken below the surface, and then there's the c-beam rails over the top of those. So the tops are hard to see, let alone access. My guess is that years ago (before I bought it, of course) the bolts had come loose and then the diff shook violently when the clutch was engaged, breaking the bolts/studs near the surface and taking some threads with it, hence the reason that the so-called easy-outs won't turn.
Last year I had replaced the three surviving bottom bolts with Grade 8 bolts. They still need to be tightened routinely, and one of them wasn't tightening well, and when I unscrewed it I saw that some of the threads from the hole had come out with it (the bolt itself was intact).
