i would do steel that bolts on - hopefully using existing frame holes. if the holes dont line up, drill holes and weld nuts to make an assembly. that way you can remove for cleaning or straightening. i saw a pretty slick rock rail built below the stock running boards once. kept the stock appearance, but the square tubing took the abuse instead of the exhaust and frame. should be easy with your skill set.
