Are you sure you have a 440 in your truck? This would have been retrofitted as the last year for big block engine was 1978 with a few exports going out the door in '79. If the distributor is in the front of the engine then you probably do have one.
Personally, unless you just want a new truck, I'd fix the old one up. I've got an '84 that looked pretty rough. The zoning gestapo told me I couldn't spray paint it. I didn't, I used a roller. It came out pretty good too. This is a good running truck, the title is in the lock box, I don't worry about that first and second and third dent, plus it's old enough there are a bunch of them in the salvage yards. (Well, not around here, Dodges are as scarce as hens teeth but you get the point.) There's also something to be said for the lack of a car payment as well as the lower insurncae rates from not having full coverage on it.
