I fooled around with the TBI on my wife's old Isuzu Rodeo vs the carbureted engine, and concluded that there were benefits to TBI, but enconomy wasn't one of them. A carefully tuned Q-Jet is a pretty efficient thing, but you need to study up before you start working. I have an old book on Q-Jets that was pretty good, but I expect that good information is now widely available on the internet.
