Joe, NJ had the same problem, all the insurance co's were leaving.
Geico is here now,( i have not used them )
I deal with a co. called New Jersey Manufactures for my personal and commerical policies. they are direct to you. ( no agent or broker )
I have had no claims, but they have save me alot of money over the last couple of years.
Proof of insurance is kept electronically, linked direct to M.V. dept.
NJ will automaticaly revoke you licence if you have a car registered with no insurance.
