My dad used to build big 28 cyl. radials for Ford under contract from Pratt&Whitney. He said early in the cold war the US would seal some engines up in boxes or cases and ship them to undisclosed Canadian destinations to await possible need in case of catastrophy. I imagine a bunch of new radial monster engines sitting up in Canada to this day!
