the gear oil is normal, they did not have outer seals and the bearings are lubed by the diff oil. On the nut I use a screw driver and a hammer. it does not cut into the nut like a chisel does. When re assembling put some grease on the bearings to avoid wear while they wait for gear oil to arrive from the diff. and check gear oil level in diff when done.
