It might be possible in theory, I've rebuilt many a transfer case. The 3 speed Atlas could be a good candidate, however I think the final drive gear would be so SMALL that it would have a hard time surviving any amount of time unless the entire gear cluster was changed and re-manufactured.
A different sized gear means a tooth number and tooth size change and that means that ALL corresponding gears must change in order to properly mesh and still have the correct strength.
Good theory, interesting application required.....
