You get banned by using one of the choice words from the bad word list. This usually results in getting banned for 3 days. Its meant to keep the spam out, but occasionally you get banned innocently, usually because a bad word is contained in a good word (for instance "lie" might be a bad word, and since it is contained in "believe", you could get banned).

Getting unbanned is possible, ask Jerry, he is a pro at it.
