Hey guys,
I am looking for a small 1 ton Brownie overdrive gearbox for my '48 PW. I don't want to change my gearing in my axles and thought this might be a different way to go and also more period correct anyways. From what I have seen they come in two speed (direct and overdrive preferably) or three speed (under/direct/over). I think the ones I be looking for would be a Brown/Lipe or Dana/Spicer 5813 or Model 47 or a Watson Model 45. I have also heard of one called a Ranger that was a two speed ( direct/over). Any one on the forum here seen this done and could I please get some pics and info on performance.I know I will need to move my transfer case back and fab mounts and fabricating parts is what I love do anyway.
I have posted this once before and thought I might try again as I didn't have the model numbers. Any leads on where to find one would be a great help. Are there other options of like maybe putting a Muncie 4 speed behind the original Dodge crash box or are there other brand of old Brownie gear boxes I could use(trying to stay away from Gearvendors and modern electric overdrives as they are to expensive for me to purchase).
Thanks for the help!!
