Chain Restoration

I have an old chain with large links that are about 4" long and 3/8" diameter that I would like to use for the winch chain on my '57 ffpw Braden winch. It has large flat style hooks on the ends. It looks old like the PW and I would rather use it than a new chain.
Any advice on preparing and painting or coating a chain? I can blast it clean but I'm not sure how to go about coating the insides of the links.
I thought about having it hot-dip galvanized but it was really expensive, like $145.
Thanks, Roger
