CORRECTION: A FEW of the 60's bellhousings were
universal in nature. MOST needed a 1¼ inch thick
factory adapter plate to make them work, with the
plate intended for either a V-8 or slant six. A
bell housing without that plate will fit either/or
but not both. As an F.Y.I., the V-8 NP 420 input shaft will
fit the M-37 NP 420. It is just a matter of unbolting
the bearing retainer & swapping BOTH the retainer
& input shaft, as the V-8 retainer/T.O. bearing guide
is longer than on the 6. Good luck
